Welcome to the Mike Varney Physiotherapy News and Advice blog

St Clare’s Midnight Walk

This year the Mike Varney Physiotherapy team have chosen St Clare’s Hospice as our charity of the year. So far we have raised £200 but we have a way to go to reach a target similar to last year! The team are completing personal challenges this year including the Midnight Walk in Harlow on the 2nd July!

Why is the Midnight Walk in Harlow is such a vital source of funding for St Clare Hospice?!

St Clare’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people living with terminal life-limiting illnesses, offering physical, emotional, social and psychological support for patients and their families across West Essex and East Hertfordshire.

Over the past 26 years the hospice has provided that support free of charge to thousands of families, but all of those services comes at a cost.

The annual running costs of the hospice at Hastingwood are now £3.7m but it receives limited support from the NHS and relies heavily on donations to keep it going. Every year it has to secure £2.4m from fundraising activities like the Midnight Walk as well as other voluntary sources.
