This year our chosen charity is

Raising money for the NSPCC

NSPCC stands for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. It was founded in 1884.

The NSPCC is one of the leading children’s charities that are fighting to end abuse in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The NSPCC helps children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protect those at risk and find the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening.

The NSPCC’s stated core values are based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

They are:

Care for children
  • Children must be protected from all forms of violence and exploitation
  • Everyone has a responsibility to support the care and protection of children
  • We listen to children and young people, respect their views and respond to them directly
  • Children should be encouraged and enabled to fulfil their potential
  • We challenge inequalities for children and young people
  • Every child must have someone to turn to

The NSPCC goes to the government on issues relating to child welfare and creates campaigns for the public to raise awareness of child protection issues.

Our reasons for choosing the NSPCC

Our Physiotherapy Manager, Tom, had a baby boy in December 2017, which made us think about fundraising for a children’s charity. Mrs. Varney has been involved with the NSPCC for over 33 years and everyone at the clinic agreed with the NSPCC’s aims.

Is there a target?

We are going to try and raise £2000 for the NSPCC this year. Although, we hope to raise a lot more for such an amazing charity!

Our aims and objectives in fundraising for the NSPCC

Our main aim and objective is to tell our patients within the clinic who the NSPCC are, what they do, their aims, and most importantly raise money for the charity. We know that the NSPCC are already in the local Harlow schools, but we also wanted to get their name out into the community.

We are highlighting the charity within the clinic to our patients with information booklets/leaflets and carrying out fundraising events.

Planned Activities

We have already carried out two charity events to raise money for the NSPCC. The first was an Abseil off the water tower in May. Five very brave Mike Varney Physiotherapy staff took part and raised a whopping £1500!

We also held a bake sale in June where all the staff and some patients brought in some lovely goodies and we raised a great £155!

Keep your eyes peeled for our up-coming events, we have some fun ideas in mind including a quiz night and a club night!
