Over the summer season, the team at Mike Varney Physiotherapy have been offering their services to Silver Leys Polo Club situated just outside Bishop’s Stortford. The Club has been around since 1894 and is believed to be the oldest Polo Club in England.
Players travel from all around the country and even from abroad to play at Silver Leys, however the club is also supported by a wide range of spectators making the Polo events a worthwhile and enjoyable experience. If you’re not very familiar with the game, the commentators will keep you up to date with the rules. The club house in the grounds offers a selection of amazing homemade food and a licenced bar to keep your energy up for the fast paced games.
The horses are very well looked after by the players, however the players themselves don’t get any treatment. Therefore, the therapists from the clinic have attended these events to offer the players massage, injury advice and treatment pre and post matches.
Massage have proven to be very effective pre and post games relieving the players of any aches and pains they may have and improving their movement, which in turns helps them to play a better game of polo.
Having just one game left of the season this weekend, it has been a pleasure to help out at such enjoyable events and meet some lovely people and their horses.
