What to expect at a Mummy MOT
The assessment will be carried out by Marni Cochrane, a specialist physiotherapist, who is fully trained to carry out a Mummy MOT. To learn more about the Mummy MOT, head to themummymot.com.
She will discuss your pregnancy, labour and any subsequent health concerns. She will then look at how you are standing and moving, check if there is a tummy separation and on the strength of the muscles in your abdomen. Finally, if appropriate, there may be an internal examination which is an effective way of assessing the strength of the pelvic floor muscles. It can also help to spot any scar tissue or prolapse at this stage.
She will discuss your findings and come up with an individualised plan, taking into consideration your lifestyle, and aim to restore your body to its pre-baby state – or even improve it!
Marni will be able to educate and advise you on safe baby-care activities by, for instance, instructing you on the correct form for lifting your baby or carrying car seats, and the right posture for feeding positions. This will help reduce your risk of sustaining post-natal injuries.
If there are issues that cannot be dealt with by Marni, She has built up a fantastic network of highly experienced and trusted professionals that she can refer you on to.
